October 2013 Newsletter

Sharp Childminding Services.

October 2013 Newsletter

We are well into our autumn term and the children have settled back into the school routine well, just a few things to update you all with;

Policy reviews-

Every year we review our policies and make amendments where required and add new policies if needed. This year it was highlighted by our network co-ordinator that our sickness policy was inadequate and needed to be amended to be in line with the legislation laid out by the Health Protection Agency, stating that children who are ill with diarrhoea and/or vomiting must be kept away from the setting for 48hrs since the last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting. http://www.hpa.org.uk/webc/HPAwebFile/HPAweb_C/1194947358374

Also, we have added a new Social Media Policy, if you could please have a look through the policies on our website www.sharpchildmindingservices.co.uk  as we need you to sign a confirmation slip stating you agree to the policies.

Mud kitchen-

We have added a mud kitchen to the garden to enhance the children’s play and learning and they have briefly, had use of it and thoroughly enjoyed it. http://www.muddyfaces.co.uk/mud_kitchens.php

As always, any comments, feedback or if you would like to arrange a time to discuss anything about the service we provide please let us know.

Kind Regards

Heidi

July 2013 Newsletter

Sharp Childminding services

Summer July 2013 Newsletter

Welcome to our summer newsletter, we are so glad summer has finally arrived after such a long winter. We have made the most of the garden and have been growing a variety of fruit and vegetables on the veggie patch, the children helped to plant out peas, runner beans, broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes and we have quite an established strawberry patch as well.

Due to COSHH regulations the vegetable patch is totally organic so the children have been very ‘hands on’ with the weeding and examining of the plants as they grow. Our 24 pea plants have now been reduced to just 3 due to slugs and snails but we have enjoyed eating peas as they became ready, raw and straight off the plant.

During the day with the younger children we have been busy with playgroups, swimming, beach trips and meeting up with other minders and their children; we had a trip to Southend cemetery to witness the caterpillar phenomenon where millions of them covered trees, headstones and bushes in a fine silk.

The children enjoyed their visit and the gardens are well maintained and we saw quite a few rabbits hopping about as well.

Finally, it’s that time of year again where we like to review and reflect on how we do things and what we can do to improve our service to you, we have some feedback forms to hand out and would really appreciate your thoughts and comments.

Chinese New Year

With Chinese New Year approaching we are busy creating decorations to make our setting look festive for the year of the snake.

We shall be decorating dragon masks, making fortune cookies, Chinese lanterns and lucky money envelopes .

The children really enjoy getting stuck in to our craft ideas and often come up with ideas of their own, this really encompasses our child-led learning ethos.

First Aid Update and new toddler group

Marcus & I completed our First aid training along with some colleagues from the childminding network. Our instructor was very knowledgeable and taught in a way that really embedded the information to ensure its ‘locked in’ for future use, should it be needed.

We have also started to take the children to a playgroup on Mondays, its a great group at the Highland Methodist church on Sutherland boulevard, it has many activities on different tables in the hall including, gluing & sticking, colouring, lego, small world toys and ride-ons. Its lovely clean, spacious place with a friendly atmosphere, the children really seemed to enjoy themselves.

We  have outside activities on everyday day of the week;

Monday- playgroup

Tuesday- Dancing

Wednesday- messy play session

Thursday- Playgroup

Friday- sensory play

PSED conference Tickfield Training Centre Southend

I thoroughly enjoyed the workshops today at the conference, We had some great guest speakers including Martin & Helen Huleatt who demonstrated block play and how this can benefit the children’s development, Andrew Waterman gave us an entertaining lesson on persona dolls and how these can be used in the setting to deal with many issues that can arise, Maurice Hines talked about promoting positive behaviour and gave us an insight into why children behave the way they do and finally Susan fisher delivered an Attachment workshop explaining the different bonds children and adult develop and the problems that can occur if these aren’t developed in the early years, overall a fascinating day and I learned a lot and I cant wait to attend another.
